The definition of disability only requires that the individual demonstrate an inability to perform full-time work (full-time work is referred to as “substantial gainful activity” in the definition), according to the Social Security Administration. The individual only needs to demonstrate that their particular medical condition prevents full-time work for at least 12 months. The definition does not require permanent disability.
