Mathis & Mathis, P.C.
Disability Benefits Guidance in Washington, DC
The process of applying for government disability benefits is often so difficult that applicants end up feeling defeated. After receiving repeated denials, many applicants find themselves questioning whether they are entitled to Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) at all.
For almost 25 years, Mathis & Mathis, P.C., has provided calm and efficient help to disability benefits applicants. We have helped thousands of disability benefits claimants get the benefits they deserve.
From offices in Arlington, Virginia, the disability advocates at Mathis & Mathis work on behalf of disability benefits applicants throughout the DC Metro Area. We are not a general practice law firm with a lawyer who does a little bit of disability benefits work "on the side." Instead, the entire focus of our law practice is to help disabled people succeed with their Social Security disability applications and appeals. We have extensive knowledge and experience with medical providers and Social Security offices and judges in our practice areas.

Knowledgeable Assistance With Disability Benefits Applications
Applying for Social Security disability benefits is confusing even during the best of times. At Mathis & Mathis, we fully understand that the application and appeals process may prove too stressful for a person living with a serious disability. We view our role as advocates and guides — and we are available to help at any stage in the process. Unlike some disability benefits attorneys, we do not make applicants wait to get legal assistance until after they have been denied benefits.

Ms. Mathis has been a partner in Mathis & Mathis, PC. since 1990, representing Social Security claimants at all levels of appeal. In more recent years, her focus has been on Federal court appeals, where she has fought successfully to overturn the improper denial decisions of Social Security ALJ's and its Appeals Council.
Ms. Mathis graduated from the George Mason University School of Law in 1986, where she was a member of the Law Review. She is a member of the bars of Virginia and Maryland, as well as the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In association with other attorneys around the country, she has also represented many claimants in other federal district courts. The primary focus of the firm is in establishing entitlement to disability benefits. Ms. Mathis has pursued other Social Security related issues in federal court, such as establishing the rights of statutorily blind claimants to a more favorable computation of benefits.
Ms. Mathis also represents disabled claimants who are seeking federal or state disability retirement, as well as private long term disability benefits.
Prior to entering the firm in 1990, Ms. Mathis was a trial attorney for the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice and the Solicitors Office of the United States Department of Labor. Her experience includes litigation of employment discrimination and disability issues as a government attorney.
Ms. Mathis is a member of the Legal Advisory Board of the National Capitol Multiple Sclerosis Society and she is a frequent lecturer on disability issues for the MS Society and other impairment related support groups.
