Sherman, Federman, Sambur & McIntyre, LLP
Attorney Advertising has its roots in the 1930’s when the late Morris Feuerstein began a general practice of law in Bay Shore, Long Island.
By the 1950’s Mr. Feuerstein’s practice had become primarily a Workers’ Compensation practice. In 1974 Mr. Feuerstein was joined by Benson Sherman, a popular young Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judge (called “referees” at that time). Together they built a thriving practice, mostly in Suffolk County, representing injured workers at the Workers’ Compensation Board. Their practice resulted in the making of “new law” by virtue of the expansion of claimant’s rights under the law based upon argument before the New York State’s highest court, the Court of Appeals.
In 1982 Paul R. Federman joined the firm as a Licensed Claimant’s Representative. He was made a partner upon his admission to the Bar in January of 1987. Robin A. Sambur came to the firm in 1990 and in 1991 the firm, then operating as Sherman & Federman, merged with the Nassau County practice of Frank Samenga, a long time practitioner in Workers’ Compensation.
Ms. Sambur was named partner in the firm in 1994, and in 1998 Barbara Baum Levine was also named as a partner and the firm took its present name. On January 1, 2001 Edward T. McIntyre was elevated to the position of partner, as were Richard W. Donohue and James J. Accardi in 2004. John J. Fiore became a partner on January 1, 2006.
Over the years, the firm has grown from a solo practice with one attorney and one secretary, to its present form, with 12 full-time attorneys, a licensed Claimant’s Representative, additional attorneys “of counsel”, and a staff of more than 20 dedicated paralegal and other support personnel. All of us focus our efforts in the firm’s areas of practice: Workers’ Compensation Law; Volunteer Firefighter’s Benefits Law; Volunteer Ambulance Workers’ Benefits Law; Social Security Disability Benefits, and related matters.
